You survived. Now it’s time to dream again.
Let’s be honest: Life after cancer is complicated. You’ve made it through the chaos of diagnosis, treatment, side effects, and maybe even people who vanished when things got hard. Now you’re left with a single, massive question:
“What now?”
The post-cancer chapter can feel disorienting, like you’re stuck between who you were before and who you’re becoming after. That’s where a post-cancer vision board comes in. Not just arts and crafts, this is a tool to reconnect with yourself, rewrite your future, and get loud about what you want next.
Wait, why make a vision board after cancer?
Because your goals deserve to exist outside of survival. Creating a vision board allows you to reclaim control after so much was out of your hands.
✨ Visualizing a life that reflects who you are now
✨ Putting joy, peace, and purpose back in the spotlight
✨ Making space for new dreams and old ones you had to shelve
It honors the hell you’ve been through and gives yourself permission to move forward with intention.
What should go on your vision board?
Literally whatever speaks to you. But here are some ideas to spark your creativity:
- Words that give you life: Strength, balance, freedom, healing
- Images that inspire: Travel spots, hobbies, cozy spaces, style inspo
- Affirmations you want to believe: “I am not my diagnosis.” “I get to choose joy.”
- Goals that make you excited or scared (in a good way): Start a business. Hike a mountain. Dye your hair pink.
There’s no wrong way to do this. This board is yours, and it doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else.

How to Make It Meaningful (Not Just Pretty)
Set the vibe. Turn on your favorite playlist. Light a candle. Wear something soft. This is sacred time with yourself.
Start with questions:
- What makes me feel most alive right now?
- What do I want more of in this next chapter?
- What did cancer teach me about what matters?
Rip, cut, paste, save. Whether it’s magazine clippings, Canva collages, or a saved folder on your phone, make your board in a way that feels fun (not forced).

Put it where you’ll see it. On your mirror. In your closet. On your phone background. Your dreams should be visible.
Cancer Survivor Christine Kelly told Elephants and Tea, “My vision board sits on the corner of my cluttered desk in my dorm room. I see it every day, a reminder of the hope and excitement I have for my future. I used pictures and text from magazines, stickers, construction paper, and gemstones. Colors and inspirational sayings brighten the board. I wrote my dreams, goals, hopes, wishes, and prayers for who I want to be, and how I want to live my life – my vision of my future. No cancer and a healthy lifestyle makes up the center of my board, but I also want to explore nature, travel, and get married and be a mother – likely through adoption.”
Bonus: Involve Your Support Squad
You don’t have to keep this to yourself. Invite your friends, caregivers, or partner to create their own vision boards with you. Talk about what you want to feel, do, or build next and how they can support that. This is a perfect way to shift from “What do you need?” to “What’s next?”
You get to dream again. Loudly.
You’ve been through more than most people could imagine. And you’re still standing. That’s powerful. That’s rare. So dream big. Dream messy. Dream without guilt. Your story didn’t end with cancer. It’s just getting a new chapter. One you get to write.
