Support Starter Kit FAQ

Support Starter Kit FAQ

The Support Starter Kit is a free, six-month guided experience designed to help young adults with cancer stay connected with the people who care about them.

The program includes:

  • 📦 Welcome Kit for you and your invited supporters
  • 💛 Three themed connection kits shared with one supporter at a time
  • 🌱 Delivered approximately every two months

Before You Enroll

What is the Support Starter Kit?

The Support Starter Kit is a free, four-part subscription that helps make support feel a little easier.

Rather than simply sending care packages, the program creates shared experiences that help young adults and their supporters reconnect, communicate, and spend meaningful time together throughout treatment.

Each delivery includes thoughtfully curated activities, conversation prompts, affirmations, and practical resources designed to reduce the pressure of “knowing what to say” and encourage connection.

Who is eligible?

To enroll, you must:

  • Be between 18–40 years old
  • Live in the United States
  • Be newly diagnosed (within the last six months) or currently in active treatment
  • Be able to read English (kits are currently available in English only)
  • Be a first-time Support Starter Kit participant
What if I'm not ready to invite supporters?

That’s completely okay.

Many young adults aren’t sure who to invite right away, or simply aren’t ready to ask.

You can still enroll today.

We’ll send your Welcome Kit directly to you, and you’ll have opportunities throughout the program to invite or choose supporters later if and when it feels right.

The goal is to meet you where you are.

You can also explore additional resources from b-present, including guides, articles, and tools designed to support young adults and their support communities.

What if I'm not sure who to invite?

That’s one of the most common questions we hear.

Your supporters might be:

  • Friends
  • Family members
  • Siblings
  • Partners
  • Coworkers
  • Roommates
  • Chosen family

There isn’t a “right” answer.

Even inviting one person can make a meaningful difference.

What information is needed to sign up?

A preview of the enrollment checklist and questions is here

After You Enroll

What happens after I sign up?

After your enrollment is reviewed and approved:

  1. You’ll receive a welcome email.
  2. We’ll prepare your Welcome Kit for shipment.
  3. If you invited supporters, they’ll receive an email asking them to confirm their mailing address.
  4. Once everything is ready, your Welcome Kit ships.

Later, before each themed connection kit, we’ll reach out to:

  • confirm your mailing address
  • help you choose which supporter you’d like to share that experience with

We’ll guide you every step of the way.

Why do supporters have to confirm their mailing address?

We ask supporters to confirm their own mailing address so we know they’d like to participate.

This helps:

  • protect everyone’s privacy
  • ensure kits are sent to the correct address
  • create the best possible experience for everyone

Once they confirm, they’ll receive their Welcome Kit and can be selected for future themed kits.

Should I tell my supporters to expect an email?

Yes—we highly recommend it.

Sometimes invitation emails end up in spam or promotions folders.

A quick heads-up makes a big difference.

You could send something like:

“I signed up for the free Support Starter Kit through b-present. You’ll receive an email asking you to confirm your address so they can send you a free Welcome Kit. Keep an eye on your inbox—and maybe your spam folder too.”

What if I entered the wrong email address?

No worries. It happens.

Just reply to your Welcome email or contact us as soon as possible and we’ll update it before kits are shipped whenever possible.

During the Program

What if one of my supporters doesn't respond?

Don’t worry, you’ll still receive your kits.

Sometimes invitations are missed, filtered into spam, or people simply need a reminder.

If someone doesn’t respond, you can:

  • remind them to check their email
  • invite someone different
  • continue through the program on your own
  • choose another supporter before a future themed kit

The program is designed to stay flexible because support needs often change over time.

Can I change supporters later?

Absolutely.

Before each themed kit ships, we’ll ask which supporter you’d like to share that experience with.

You can:

  • choose the same supporter each time
  • choose different supporters
  • add new supporters later

You’re never locked into your original choices.

How many kits do supporters receive?

Everyone who confirms their mailing address receives the Welcome Kit.

For the remaining three themed connection kits, you’ll choose one supporter at a time to receive the next shared experience with you.

Some supporters may receive multiple themed kits, while others may only receive the Welcome Kit.

It’s entirely your choice.

What if my mailing address changes?

Before every shipment we’ll ask you to confirm your mailing address.

If your email address or phone number changes, please let us know as soon as possible so we can stay in touch throughout the program.

Can I just receive all the kits myself?

Yes.

Some young adults prefer to receive all of the kits themselves and share the activities with supporters in person or whenever it feels right.

However, when supporters receive their own coordinated kit, they’re able to participate alongside you with the same materials, making the shared experience even easier.

Both approaches work.

The goal is simply to make connection easier.

What happens after the program ends?

After your fourth delivery, the subscription ends, but hopefully the connections don’t.

The activities, conversation starters, and habits you’ve built are designed to continue long after the final kit arrives.

You’ll also continue to have access to additional b-present resources, articles, guides, and community opportunities.

For Supporters

Why did I receive an invitation?

Someone cares about you enough to invite you into an important part of their cancer experience.

They’ve chosen you because they want you on their support team.

It’s okay if you are not sure what to do. That why this program exists. to help you be present with less pressure.

No.

Simply confirm your mailing address through the invitation email.

That’s it.

Why do I need to confirm my mailing address?

We ask every supporter to confirm their own address so we know they’d like to participate and so we can ship the Welcome Kit directly to them.

What if I miss the invitation email?

It happens.

If you think someone invited you but can’t find the email, check your spam or promotions folder.

Still can’t find it?

Contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Is there any cost?

No.

Everything is completely free thanks to generous donors, sponsors, and community partners.

Do I need the b-there app?

No.

The app is completely optional.

Everything you need to participate will also be shared through email.

If you’re completing the referral on their behalf, please confirm they’re eligible and have given permission before submitting the form.

Can young adults enroll themselves?

Yes.

Young adults may enroll independently or through a healthcare professional referral.

If duplicate enrollments occur, our team will coordinate them behind the scenes.

What information will I need?

You’ll need the young adult’s contact information, confirmation that they meet the eligibility criteria, and their permission to submit the referral.

The enrollment checklist and preview questions are available here for your review before you begin.

Once they confirm, they’ll receive their Welcome Kit and can be selected for future themed connection kits.
